Arianna Huffington reported today about a disturbing increase in unhappiness among women:
"According to study after study, women are becoming more and more unhappy. This drop in happiness is found in women across the social and economic landscape. It doesn’t matter what their marital status is, how much money they make, whether or not they have children, their ethnic background, or the country they live in. Women around the world are in a funk." (www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/the-sad-shocking-truth-ab_b_290021.html)
As a clinical and organization psychologist, my perspective is that for decades now, both men and women have been suffering because of profound confusion about what creates sustainable happiness. In truth, the prevailing "life fulfillment formula" our society has pursued for the past three to four decades is directly responsible for today’s biggest problems — in politics, the economy, health, education and much more. (For more about our faulty life fulfillment formula, look at Ingredient #1 of my public service project, the Integrity Stimulus Plan: Life Fulfillment Integrity — www.thenewiq.com/life-fulfillment-integrity).
Sustainable happiness will remain out of reach until we replace the faulty life fulfillment formula responsible for our individual and collective suffering with a more realistic and practical one.
